Find a hotel →Centre around Stortorget, Trappgatan and Knutpunkten (combined ferry and train terminal) is compact and largely car-free. 5 min to the North Harbour and the coastal walk up towards Sofiero. Best base without a car — everything reachable on foot or by train/ferry.
Modern architecture along the water with quayside walks, restaurants and the Dunkers cultural centre. Direct access to Parapeten and Gröningen for evening walks.
Quiet residential streets just north of the centre with direct access to Pålsjö forest and Pålsjöbaden. Ideal for active dogs that need longer routes.
South of the centre at the old fishing village of Råå — picturesque with a harbour, restaurants and long beaches south towards Rydebäck.
Sofiero castle park (5 km north of the centre) allows leashed dogs year-round — 15 hectares with rhododendron valleys and Öresund views. Pålsjö forest is 200 hectares of beech woodland in the middle of the city with viewpoints over Öresund and a fenced dog park at Pålsjöbaden. Hittarp and Domsten have official dog beaches north of the city, and Råå harbour to the south is popular for evening walks. Gröningen along the central quay is a 2 km grass walk between Knutpunkten and Sofiero.
ForSea and Sundbusserna take dogs for free (on a leash on board, on outdoor and car decks) — departures every 15 minutes, 20 min crossing. Perfect for a day trip to Kronborg Castle, the Danish Hamlet castle, or onwards by DSB train to Copenhagen (45 min, free dog). The ferry to Helsingør runs around the clock — ideal if you miss the train home.
Knutpunkten/Central station offers the best value — Elite Hotel Marina Plaza at the North Harbour, Clarion Hotel Sea U at Oceanhamnen and Comfort Hotel Helsingborg are all 2–5 minutes from the ferry. Scandic Helsingborg Nord sits further up towards Sofiero. Elite Hotel Mollberg on Stortorget is the historic choice (Sweden's oldest hotel property, 1322).
Skånetrafiken (Pågatåg, city buses and Öresundståg) accepts dogs free of charge. On buses dogs sit at the back; some departures are dog-free for allergy reasons — check the Skånetrafiken app or the timetable at the stop. Pågatåg to Lund (35 min) and Malmö (50 min) are comfortable with dogs. Öresundståg onwards to Copenhagen (1 h via Lund/Malmö) is often faster than the ferry.
Helsingborg is one of Sweden's cheaper areas for pet bookings — fees free to 250 SEK per night. Few hotels have weight limits. Summer (Jun–Aug) is peak with H22 events and the Sound Festival — book 2+ months in advance. In winter, fika at Sofiero and Pålsjö walks are classics.
