Södermalm

Södermalm is the first choice for most dog owners. Mariatorget, Tantolunden and Långholmen are all within a 15-minute walk and there are plenty of dog-friendly outdoor cafés along Hornsgatan and Götgatan. Hotel Rival on Mariatorget is a classic — no pet fee and a bistro with outdoor seating.

Norrmalm & City

In Norrmalm you stay close to Central Station, Kungsträdgården and Humlegården. Design hotels At Six and Haymarket by Scandic accept dogs in selected rooms — practical if you arrive by train or the Arlanda Express.

Östermalm & Djurgården

Östermalm is calm in the evenings and gives quick access to Djurgården — essentially Stockholm's largest dog park. Hotel Diplomat on Strandvägen and Grand Hôtel by the waterfront are two classic dog-friendly options.

Best parks and off-leash areas

The City of Stockholm has more than 30 fenced dog parks. The most popular are Tantolunden, Vasaparken (south end), Humlegården, the Långholmen dog park and Rålambshovsparken. Djurgården only requires a leash — the area to walk is enormous.

Public transport with a dog in Stockholm

SL allows dogs free of charge on the metro, commuter trains and buses. Always pick a carriage with a dog symbol — some carriages are marked dog-free for allergy reasons. On buses dogs sit at the back. Taxis: mention the dog when booking, most accept it in the boot or in a crate.

Good to know before booking

Pet fees in Stockholm range from free to about 500 SEK per night. Boutique and design hotels are usually more generous than large chains. Weight limits are rarely strict in central Stockholm — but call ahead if you have a large breed (>30 kg). Most hotels allow two pets per room.
